Getting there by train
The train is another fast, convenient and extremely comfortable way to get to Lake Garda. Arriving at the Riviera dei Limoni is no problem at all, irrespective of the direction or town you’re coming from. Those coming from the north should simply take the train to Rovereto. A scheduled coach transfer to Lake Garda is available from the railway stations at Rovereto and Verona Porta Nuova. Details of the shuttle service can be found on the website of the Province of Verona bus company at www.apt.vr.it. Further information and comprehensive details about taking the train to Lake Garda are available from www.bahn.de and www.trenitalia.it. Note that Trenitalia tickets tend to be cheaper than those offered by Deutsche Bahn! In any case, please remember to validate any rail tickets you buy in Italy before getting on your train. You can do this at the obliteratrici (little green validating machines) located at the entrances to the platforms.
Night trains are also an ideal solution for all those wishing to travel by night to Lake Garda. Special Deutsche Bahn offers such as the SparNight Angebot enable you to save valuable holiday time as well as money. Your Deutsche Bahn service team will take excellent care of you from departure to arrival on the night trains. Please note that you will have to book a separate compartment if you wish to take your pets along with you. Night train reservations can be made by calling the German number 01805-141514 and of course from any Deutsche Bahn points of sale. And travel is even cheaper when you book on-line.
You can also take your bicycle along with you on many long-distance trains for the cost of a supplement. Deutsche Bahn operates direct services to Italy which also take bikes on board. All you need to do is purchase the relevant international ticket in Germany. Even if you have to change trains, Deutsche Bahn will issue you a ticket for your bicycle that takes it to your desired rail destination in Italy. To make a booking, call the DB cyclists’ hotline on 01805-151415 (Germany).
