Getting there by airplane


Taking the plane is easily the fastest way to get to Lake Garda. There are several airports around Lake Garda with regular flights to and from Germany. Transfers to and from Lake Garda are equally well organised.

Valerio Catullo Airport in Verona Villafranca
 
This is the closest airport to Lake Garda, being only 15 km or so away. Lufthansa operates several daily flights from Frankfurt and Munich. Low-cost airline Germanwings also runs a service between Cologne and Verona. A shuttle bus links the airport to the main railway station of Verona Porta Nuova every 20 minutes from 06.35 until 23.35. Orio al Serio Airport in Bergamo

Orio al Serio Airport in Bergamo is just under an hour’s drive (about 75 km) away from the southern part of Lake Garda. It is particularly well known and popular because of the many low cost connections it offers to the most important airports in Europe. Lufthansa operates regular flights from Munich. No-frills carrier Ryanair offers flights from Frankfurt-Hahn and Hamburg-Lübeck, Air Berlin from Berlin-Tegel and Düsseldorf and Hapag-Lloyd from Hanover.

Marco Polo Airport in Venice

A further, though somewhat more laborious option is Marco Polo Airport in Venice. It is served by non-stop flights from nine German cities. Lufthansa operates several services a day to Venice from Frankfurt and Munich. Hapag-Lloyd Express offers flights from Hamburg, Berlin Tegel, Cologne, Hanover and Stuttgart to Marco Polo Airport. From Friedrichshafen low-cost airline Intersky flies to Venice and Transavia offers charter flights from Münster-Osnabrück to Marco Polo Airport.

Milano Malpensa Airport in Milan

From Germany, this airport is primarily served by the major carriers Lufthansa, Alitalia and Delta Airlines. They offer flights from Berlin-Tegel, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hanover, Munich and Stuttgart. From Hamburg Eurowings also operates an occasional service to Milan. Germanwings flies from Cologne to Milano Malpensa. The airport is situated some distance outside Milan and is about 150 km away from the southern part of Lake Garda.
