Holidays in Manerba at Lake Garda, Italy
Manerba is a part of the world steeped in historical tradition: here there were once Roman temples, Charlemagne assigned the title deed to Manerba castle and Frederick Barbarossa also left his mark on the history of Manerba, which is located on the south-western shore of Lake Garda. Only a few sights survive today to testify to the historical importance of the little town. Take the castle, which was built in the year 110 AD, for example. Although it only consists of ruins today, it is still absolutely worth a visit.
Manerba offers a set of rural contrasts to the glamorous Garda Riviera with its lakeside promenades and elegant boutiques. Manerba has perceptibly closer ties to the land and historical traditions, its many trattorie and osterie are still considered genuine insiders’ tips and offer excellent regional fare which has largely been spared the influence of international cuisine. The vegetation around here is noticeably lush. Vines, olive groves and little cypress woods form the setting of the picturesque town. The locality is situated on the edge of a wide bay at the southern end of Lake Garda. Go to the Rocca di Manerba, a 280 m high outcrop of rock, for marvellous views of the lake and its coastline.
