Sights in Limone at Lake Garda, Italy
Campione
Campione, a part of Tremosine located on the plateau, is situated 6 km to the south right by the lake. The public beach – very popular among surfers – features a caravan site and sailing schools.
San Benedetto
This was the original site of a Roman basilica. The parish church was built over its ruins in 1691. Don’t miss the three 17th C. altars and two paintings by Andrea Celestis from the start of the 18th C.
Madonna di Montecastello
A few kilometres further south and 700 m above the lake, this hermitage is a popular destination for day trips and pilgrimages, and offers wonderful views over Lake Garda and the surrounding mountains.
Pieve
Located just a few kilometres south of Limone, the main village of Tremosine features a pleasant enough pedestrian zone though few would be enticed by its modest delights to drive up the winding road to the locality. Instead, visitors are attracted by the so-called ‘terraces of shudders’. Hotel Paradiso has been using the advertising slogan for years – its own high terrace certainly juts out thrillingly enough over the lake. Other hotel establishments are also built somewhat precariously at the edge of the precipice.
