Kitesurfing
An ideal combination of paragliding and windsurfing
It’s the sport of the moment: an ideal combination of paragliding and windsurfing.
This sport, which only emerged a few years ago, was introduced to Lake Garda by one of the truly great stars of windsurfing from the United States: Robby Naish. He has tested all his products here. The kitesurfing board is shorter than the one usually used for windsurfing. The driving force is still the wind which is captured by a kite – like a small paraglider. Today the sport has attracted countless enthusiasts – particularly in the Malcesine region where several schools offer kitesurfing courses. With expert guidance and the latest equipment, novices learn the basics of this up-and-coming sport within just a few days before setting off on solo flights. Wind conditions at Lake Garda are ideal for kitesurfing. The wind blows at a constant windforce of three to four. This makes taking off very easy, even for beginners.
Kitesurfing is forbidden around the north of Lake Garda. This is either because the Trentino authorities operate more stringent swimming regulations (they rigidly enforce the use of lifejackets when required), or because the area can get quite crowded at times.
Kitesurfing is definitely permitted south of the Campione-Malcesine line, however.
